I Registered in the past but can't login
It could be that you haven't visited for a while, or never posted anything.
Only the inner circle of PHA and the more active Hunters from last year will have their Username and passwords still in this website and forum. All else will need to re-register (sorry about this, it was one of the problems with the transistion. Next year we shouldn't have this problem at all.)

Pumpkin Hunting
How do I go Pumpkin Hunting?
You go Pumpkin Hunting by walking around your neighborhood or adjacent neighborhoods and looking for real, carved Pumpkin Jack-o-lanterns. You keep track of now many you find and street, city, state where you found them. You then come back to this website, login, and then submit your count for verification. Refer to the Rules of Pumpkin Hunting for more specifics.

Can I Pumpkin Hunt anywhere?
Yep, anyplace is fine except for a supermarket. Halloween parties, carving contests, or Pumpkin Farms are good places to look for Jack-o-lanterns. We accept counts from all 50 states of the US.

How does the Webmaster go Pumpkin Hunting?
The Webmaster is on the constant look out for pumpkins throughout October. After his son's Trick-or-treating on Halloween night, he gathers up his wife and son and hops into his van. Together, they patrol many neighborhoods looking for the glowing faces.

Are you people insane or just crazy?
We are neither. The thrill is in the hunt. Until you've tried it, you'll never know how much fun it is searching for the elusive Pumpkins. Remember, not everyone puts out a real pumpkin jack-o-lantern, so this makes the hunt difficult. I personally would question the sanity of NASCAR drivers wasting gas and driving in a circle for 4 hours before I'd question Pumpkin Hunting.

The time used in the Forums is that of the server time and date, which is Eatern Daylight Time(EDT) (EST on the last week of October). To change the Times and Dates to your own local settings then simply edit your 'Forum Preferences' through your Member Control Panel Menu, and set by how many hours the time is offset from your own local time. The Forums are not designed to adjust between standard and daylight saving times, so you may need to adjust the time in your Forum Preferences by another hour during these months.

What does my rank indicate?
Ranks in this website indicate how good a Pumpkin Hunter you are and changes with the amount of Pumpkin Points you've accumulated and Pumpkins Verified.
Starting in 2008, the ranks will be reset so that hunters can climb the ladder again. (Hey, it is for fun after all!) Higher ranks looks spiffier and will give you some pull with The Inner Circle's ear when making requests during the season. Your rank will change when you've got enough points for the next rank. A Team Captain will start out at Pumpkin Finder rank. Potential team capains who want to form and lead a team for next year's hunt will need to attain Pumpkin Finder rank this year.
Moderators and The Admin have a special rank. Your goal is to become a Champion Pumpkin Hunter at the end of the Season. All ranks except for Master, Elite, and Champion are automatically given upon pumpkin and point criteria. The top three ranks are manually given by the Inner Circle only.

Can I change my rank?
No you can't, you must earn you're rank. The exceptions are members of the PHA inner circle and members from years past who will start out as they were last year. But they must earn their points to go up higher like everyone else. Just count, play, and send pictures to up your Pumpkin Points and your rank.

What happens when I become Champion Pumpkin Hunter?
Champion Pumpkin Hunter rank indicates that you will be enshrined in our Champion Hall. Please note that you will need to have found more than 100 verfied Jack-o-lanterns, played your fair share of games in addition to the Pumpkin Points criteria before you can be considered for this rank. So far, it has been handed out every season since its inseption, but this is not always the case. This rank is only given by Inner Circle via The Admin.

Teams and Pumpkin Points
What are the Teams about?
The Teams are set up by the Webmaster and serve as a replacement for the State Competition for getting the most Pumpkin Points in past years. Each Hunter is assigned to a team upon first registering on the website; the assignment is made on an as needed basis to keep the number of team members per team even. Each time a Hunter earns Pumpkin Points, they are added to their assigned Team's Point total. The Team with the most points at the end of the Season, will get the Pumpkin Power trophy - - An award for each Team member profile and the trophy for the Team profile.
Once again in 2009, the Teams will play against each other in matches. Each match result will be recorded in the team's win-loss record for determining the teams who face off in a championship match.

I want to be on a specific team, can I change teams?
When you first register, you have the oppotunity to request the team you wish to be on. In years past, the request is granted only other teams are not in need of members. THIS YEAR (2009), YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE ASSIGNED TO THE TEAM YOU WANT!! (So start recruiting new members for your team!) Once registered, if you want to be on another team, you can make a request to the Webmaster or your Team Captain to change teams. Team Captains cannot change teams.

Can I start my own team?
Teams are started by the PHA inner circle. Other Hunters can request to create their own team next year once they have attained a rank of Pumpkin Finder. A new team can only be created if the requestor has at least three hunters willing to join that team on the spot in the following season. Potential Team Captains should e-mail the Webmaster their request to create a team; the request must include a creative team name and an idea for a team logo. The team will be created when the three hunters requests to join the new team is received by the Webmaster.

Where do my points go if I join another team?
Pumpkin Points earned for a Team, stay with the Team. Each Pumpkin Point earned stick with the team the hunter was assigned to at the time the point was earned. Keep that in mind before you think about joining a new team, you will then end up possibly playing against yourself.

How do I earn Pumpkin Points?
Pumpkin points are earned by doing certain things on this website. They are only earned by registered Hunters logged in. You earn points for your profile by:
- having a submitted count a jack-o-lanterns verfied (ranged 5 - 50,000 points depending on the time of season).
- having a picture of a Jack-o-Lantern put into the Hall-o-fame (100,000 points).
- Playing Pumpkin Hunt - The Game (1 Pumpkin Point per 1 Game Point)

The only Pumpkin points that will count for your team are the Hallo-Fame points and Game Points.
In the past years, counted jack-o-lanterns added to Team points but this was determined to be a bad practice because of the subjective, on-your-honor system for verified jack-o-lanterns. So the points earned from jack-o-lanterns will not count for the team.

So then, the Pumpkin Points earned by Pumpkin Hunting don't go to the Teams anymore, like they did in the past?
That's right. Pumpkin Hunting is the main cause of this site and organization, but we all felt that basing the team points competition on a subjective 'hard-to-verify' thing like awarding team points to for pumpkins found wasn't profoundly fair to those playing the game. Pumpkin points for finding pumpkins will still be awarded to improve your rank and may help decide Top Hunter, but they will not effect the teams points anymore.

I'm a Team Captain and I want to add or drop members of my team or trade with another team, can I do this?
Yes, you can do this. Captains will be able to manage their team from the Forum menu to handle Drops and Adds. The webmaster is trying to get the tools in place to allow the Team Captains to do trades their own. But until that is done, all requests for trades will need to be handled by The Admin. Both team captains must contact The Admin via private message with the same terms, it will then be honored and executed. However, it will not be retroactive for the time the request is agreed upon... only when the Admin gets around to making the change happen. And remember, the points earned by the player will remain on the Team they earned them for. A trade deadline of Oct 20 will be observed as well, no transactions will be made after those dates.
Feel free to trade for whatever you want, a player for two players, a player for pumpkin points, whatever you both can agree on.

Team Match play? What is this? Are the teams playing each other now?
Yes! This is something we are doing again since it was a hit in 2008. The PHA Inner circle wanted to have a fair competition for the teams where team members could match up agaist each other while playing Pumpkin Hunt - The Game. Unlike the Top Team points competition where the teams get points for how often they play, the teams will score points in matches based on how well they play.
The basic rules for match play are listed here:Official Team Match Rules.

About the Awards
I see awards here, there, everywhere. On Teams, on profiles. What are they and how can I get one?
The awards are posted on hunter and team profiles to recognize the achievement made by them in past Pumpkin Hunt seasons. We started doing this in since the beginning with the Top Hunter award and then added others as the website came along and then the game.
You can earn as award by doing different things. Here's a list of this year's awards: This Year's Pumpkin Awards

What happened to the Top City? I thought any city could be a top city, but I only see a list of certain cities to choose from, what is this about?
Good question. The Inner Circle decided that in order for southern cities to compete with their northern counterparts, a different system of city assignment for the verified jack-o-lanterns had to be put in place.
We have a list of the most populous cities in the US and Canada that are Top City Contenders. Hunters will still put in the geographical location or town where they found the pumpkins, but then they'll need to assign it to the closest Top City Contender on the list. This way all suburban area feed into the general city count and a Top City can be crowned from this.
We felt this would be the most fair way to give all cities a shot at the title, regardless of their location and amount of pumpkins that could potentially be found.

I've noticed Admin Point adjustments and bonuses, how can I get those?
The Inner Circle will hand out Pumpkin Points to hunters that do things to help promote our site and our cause to hunt for pumpkin jack-o-lanterns. Things like posting a sign up somewhere, referring others to join our site, organizing carving parties... just to name a few. Tell The Admin about what you've done and the Inner Circle will consider it for bonus points to you and your team!

Hey, I've got an idea for an award. Will you listen to it?
Sure, we will listen. Any corporate types out there who like to sponser an objective award, we'll listen to that too.

Private Messaging
I cannot send Private Messages
There maybe several reasons for this, you are not logged in, you are not registered, or the forum administrators have disabled the Private Messaging system.

I cannot send Private Messages to some users
This maybe because the person you are trying to send a Private Message to has blocked you from being able to send them Private Messages, if this is the case you should receive a message informing you of this if you try to send them a Private Message.

How can I prevent someone from sending me Private Messages
If you do find that you are getting unwanted Private Messages from a user you can block them from sending you Private Messages. To do this go into the Private Messaging system and go to your buddy list. Go to add the user as a buddy, but instead choose the option from the drop down list 'Not to message you', this will prevent this user from sending you anymore Private Messages.
