Donate Today!
Again this year, the Pumpkin Hunters Association is placing information and donation links on our website to support the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong Memorial. It is our way of thanking them for the work they do today and the work they’ll do tomorrow. We plan to make their cause a part of our annual event for as long as they wish to be affiliated the Halloween loving Pumpkin Hunters.

Here are some additional facts about the hospital:
  • Golisano Children’s Hospital’s Children’s Heart Center is the only center in Western New York that offers a full range of interventional procedures for patients with congenital heart disease. The Center provides the latest in technologies and techniques, including pediatric echocardiography services that offer the most advanced imaging available, and a pediatric catheterization program.

  • Golisano Children’s Hospital houses a 52-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit— a level-IIID facility, rated the highest in state designation and the only one of its kind in the Finger Lakes Region. Providing the highest quality of care for sick and premature babies, the NICU admits 1200 newborns each year—most of which are born at Strong Memorial Hospital, which serves as the Regional Perinatal Center for high risk obstetrical service

  • Designated as the Regional Pediatric Trauma Center, Golisano Children’s Hospital provides care to trauma patients 15-years-old or younger from both Rochester and the surrounding region. Patients are brought to the Pediatric Emergency Department via ambulance, Mercy Flight, or the Pediatric Transport Team, to be assessed and stabilized by experts there.

  • Golisano Children’s Hospital employs half a dozen certified child-life specialists who work alongside the healthcare team to support children and their families in coping with their hospitalization and illness. Child-life staff-members help to reduce fears and anxiety sometimes associated with traumatic experiences and hospitalization, and are qualified to conduct individual interventions for patients themselves, provide emotional support of siblings of high-risk patients, coach parents in communicating with their children, and facilitate age appropriate daily routines, educational supplements, and special events/activities.

  • Golisano Children’s Hospital’s Ronald McDonald House within the Hospital is only the fourth of its kind in the world, and the first in the Eastern U.S. The House offers warm, homey bedrooms, with private shower, a large, fully-equipped kitchen, living room, laundry room, and other amenities to parents that need to be close those children in the most critical conditions.

  • Ever-exploring, ever-learning, research is a vital part of the daily activity at both Golisano Children’s Hospital and the University of Rochester’s Department of Pediatrics. Whether it’s bench research or clinical trials, studies, or health services research, the pediatric research programs here rank as one of the top 20 in the nation, and have laid a long history of bringing safer, more effective drugs, treatments and care to children in need.
