In order for this hunt to be as legitimate as
the first year it was started, we must follow the Established Rules.
These rules are to clarify what is and is not to be counted as a
Jack-o-lantern.
I know I'm asking for complete honesty for those who participate, but hey it's
not like we are talking about government secrets here.
So, please... for the love of the game and the hunt. Follow these rules
while you search and please be serious when you submit your counts.
There is no prize for First Place,
other than the Title of Top Hunter and Top City.
Help us break the record, but let's do it the right way.
|
 |
1. Only legitimate
pumpkins shall be counted as jack-o-lanterns. These pumpkins must have a
face or Halloween-like message carved on it. A candle burning in it is
not necessary for it to be counted ( a lot of candles get blown out on windy
evenings and the owners are none the wiser.) |
 |
2. Plastic orange
pails, ceramic candle holders, and pumpkin shaped light bulbs are not to be
counted. The idea is PUMPKINS, REAL PUMPKINS. If it doesn't look
like it grew out of the ground it shouldn't be counted. The individual
that puts ONLY something like that out in public on Halloween should be sent to
bed without supper. This shows no creativity on their part. They
make nice additions to a display, but the fiber-optic lit pumpkins cannot stand
alone. |
 |
3. Each pumpkin
found must be counted once and only once, the webmaster will be doing everything to ensure that there are no duplicates in the count. |
 |
4. Size also doesn't matter, a little 10oz. carved gourd counts as much as a 10
lb. beastly pumpkin. So only 1 point per pumpkin found. |
 |
5. A lot of
pumpkins that look real sometimes are not. I realize that manufacturers
have gone to great lengths to make their plastic pieces of dirt look like the
"real McCoy." They even have lots of different faces to choose
from. Fellow hunters.... try not to be fooled, with enough practice
you'll be able to spot the imposters. I'll leave this call up to the
individual, look hard and if in doubt, don't
count it. |
 |
6. A salvage count through November 5th will now be allowed to contribute
to the final tally. Not everyone immediately throws their artwork in the
garbage on the day after the big event. So get out there the days right
after Halloween and find the ones that burned out. Note
here that Pumpkin remains of a splattered Jack-O-Lantern cannot be
counted. That pumpkin is dead and considered an unfortunate loss to all. |
 |
RULE Change!
7. The artwork that is Drawn on a pumpkin should not be counted!
After a lot of consideration last year, the inner circle of PHA
has decided that drawning a face on a Pumpkin rather than carving it doesn't fit the criteria for our hunt.
Painted pumpkins should not be counted any longer.
|
 |
8. Media Jack-o-lanterns. If a pumpkin is reported by the media,
it is null and void for our count unless a member of the PHA was personally there to lay eyes on it.
This includes all pumpkins on TV, newspapers, websites, magazines
- - anything that the public see in mass. The hunter must be there to verify that it does exist. Eyes on the pumpkin while actively hunting counts, watching TV...doesn't. |
 |
RULE Change!
9. Big Festival Jack-o-lanterns. These are pumpkins that are advertised in the media as to being in a particular spot at a certain time. A single hunter can request to represent the PHA at the festival and account for the jack-o-lanterns found there. The PHA will include them in the annual count. The Hunter must be 'on-the-ground' and count the pumpkins themselves or with a team of people they trust. They will now be included for the Top Hunter and Top City competition. |
