Pumpkin Growers Blog

Here we go. I'm about to plant my first pumpkins! I went out to the local hardware store for something but I forget what... and happened to look at the garden section. I couldn't help but notice they had all the packets of stuff you can grow yourself. I searched the many selections and came across one that would definately be a boon to me if I could do it. PUMPKIN SEEDS! They were only $1.69 - so I thought, what the hey. Maybe I could try to do this. I did have a pretty good compost pile in my backyard and ample space for them to grow. Maybe I could really grow my own pumpkins and then carve'em up at Halloween time. Not to mention, that it would be a hell of a lot cheaper to grow them then buy them. So I bought the seeds. Then I did some research. The PumpkinNook.com website turned out to be very helpful. This past father's day I bought a little germanium. A place for the seed to germinate. I did note that most pumpkin plants tend to be already sprouted by now... but I'm going to press on none-the-less. The seeds are in the Peat. The Peat is watered. The cover is in place. I've got them in the warmest place for now... my office. All the computer heat in here should keep'em toasty. I would put them in the garage, but the temp is 56 F out. Not exactly warm. Maybe I'll move them in the garage this weekend when we do warm up. Wish me luck!

Nothing yet. The condensation on the Germanium makes me think that something is working here. We'll see.
