Pumpkin Growers Blog

July 5, 2008
You know, I went back and forth with this whole garden thing. It just looked like a lot of work. I mean, just digging up your lawn and putting in a mud hole? Who would really do that? I guess I would. I did. The lawn that was in the corner is now dug up... that was a lot of work! Shoveling, axing, shoveling, and picking up the loose sod. Man, am I beat from that. Anyways, the lawn in that spot is gone and has been moved to the compost heap (maybe the grass will grow there). I found a lot of stones (some quite big) within the garden area. I think I could use them for fencing or something. My dad was around to give me a hand digging the area a little. I also sprayed some Round Up around the parameter so that I can keep the grass away. Earlier in the day, the wife and I went to the hardware store to ask about ways to keep out the wildlife, the man there suggested some garden fencing and posts. We picked them up and a few bags of Top Soil. The wife also picked up cow crap for the garden. I'm NOT using that stuff. I think I can get by with just the top soil. I'm too tired to mess with any of that stuff. I just patted the pumpkin plants and told'em they'll be gettin their new home tomorrow. I hope it doesn't rain.
