Transplant Day!
Wow, it is done. The pumpkin plants are in the ground! My dad and I put in the garden edging (using a squarehead shovel) and then put in the garden fencing with the posts. The fence is complete. While I was mowing the lawn (because I needed to) Teddy and my dad both watered up the garden area really good... too good. It is a big muddy mess. But I guess that is what it is supposed to be. Time to get muddy! As my feet sank into the mud, I hitched up the fence to the posts. After that, my dad and I mixed up the cow crap and top soil... he thought the cow crap would work too. :( So we used it. After mixing about two bags each of it and tossing it in the garden bed, I decided I should determine how many of the 20 plants were going in. I decided on 16. 8 spots. 2 plants per spot. Should be enough room for them to grow. The leader doesn't look so good. I was thinking of putting him out of his misery. But, I just can't. I made a 9th spot for him - - I gotta give him the chance to grow. So, I did the most nerve-racking thing to do... the Transplant from box to garden. I dug a small hole, dug into the planter to get a couple of them out (still inside the soil) and then I quickly popped them in the hole - immediately covering them with the topsoil/cow crap combo mix. Then, I patted it down loosely and gave it a lot of water. I did this for each one until complete. I think they made it. Turns out that they did. I did the transplant at 3pm and they didn't look real happy. But I checked again at 7:30 and they had perked up quite a bit. I think that even "the leader" will pull through. Let's see how they look tomorrow.
