Pumpkin Growers BlogJuly 7, 2008 Bunnies. The damn bunnies have all of a sudden shown up! Where did they come from? I know that I didn't see hardly any traces of one but now 3 have shown up? They didn't even look scared when I shooed them away. They did run, but it took a bit more chasing than I thought I would need.
Luckily, I had gone to the local store and picked up some fence spikes. I secure the bottom of the fence firmly to the ground earlier in the day. And just in time too. The little varmit was eyeing the pumpkin plants inside the fence and was actually trying to push his nose through the wire and bite it. Can you believe it? That blank-blank bunny had better get his happy keyster somewhere else, or he'll be staring down the business end of the air pistol.
I did use some coyote pee to spray around the fence and that seems to discourage any further entry. But, man -- I put up a garden and they zone in on it? It is like the rabbits have some sort of radar to detect fresh young plant or something.
Anyways, I used a soaker hose to water the pumpkin plants this time and this seems to work. I can just turn on the faucet and they get water in the right places.
The leader continues to look weak and less than happy. The rest of the plants seem okay but still appear to be in shock from there transplant.
