Pumpkin Growers Blog

July 20 - 21, 2008
Well, my mother-in-law (a garden expert) dropped by to inspect the plants. She tells me that they look good and that there are several flower buds on the plants. So, myth confirmed! Those are flowers buds I saw. Now they just have to grow some to get some flowers to bloom. I was told also that the curly things on the vine are"climber" to help the vine climb. I guess they could climb the fence if they wanted to. So those things are not male flowers... just vines. Then the flower buds could be either male of female. Just have to see how they develop. Lots of rain all day today. Started out with a heavey shower and then some sun, but mostly rain. No need to water them today or tomorrow. The Leader still has his buds and is looking good. I don't see anymore chewed on leaves.
