A little bit of happiness and sadness today. I found two more female flowers wide open this morning. They were surrounded by the males and there were bees everywhere! Wow! I guess the chances of natural pollenation are very good if this keeps up! But on this day, the first female flower has begun to die off. I had at first thought that she may have been pollenated while all that rain was pouring down and I just never noticed, but I don't think so. She showed up before all the males started appearing. And now she and the fruit bud are both shriveling up to die. Sad. But life goes on. The Leader has his first male flower! He may be a runt, but he's a trooper... he pulled himself together to make a flower after all. After I got home, all the flowers had closed up again. I guess if the females don't open again, they are set to grow.
