Pumpkin Growers Blog

August 4 - 5, 2008
Well, on the fourth I observed a lot of males open and still no more females. I gave the plants some water from the soaker hose in the morning and the evening to ensure the soil was moist. Jessica and Nancy appear to be growing well. The morning of the fifth and I decided to give the plants another shot of 3-10-3 fertilizer. You are supposedly able to give this one as much as needed to get flowers to continue to bloom. And I could use a few more female flowers. The fourth female bloom doesn't look healthy, I don't think it got pollenated at all because the little fruit is getting yellow. I remember this happening with the first bloom. I did observe another female bud getting a little bigger. So this is good. I see a few more buds along the ever growing vines as well. The Leader is progressing and vining... still no female buds on him though.
