There are mysteries and mysterious events that cannot be explained. We lump all of these mysteries and events into one large category called the “paranormal.”
The word “paranormal” is actually a combination of two words: “para,” which means “beyond”; and “normal,” which means an accepted standard or something that neatly fits into the laws of science. So the term paranormal really means something that is beyond the normal – maybe even GREATER than the normal.
A paranormal event is an event that defies all of the accepted scientific laws and standards. It seems to be an impossibility, and yet there it is; unexplainable, but nonetheless “real.”
Humans have been fascinated by the paranormal for many centuries. It seems the smarter we get about the “normal,” the less we know about the “paranormal”. Oh, there are those who dismiss the idea of paranormal events with the wave of their hand and a pronunciation that it was all just the product of an “overactive imagination.” I don’t think so.
Just because you can’t see “it” (whatever “it” is) doesn’t mean it isn’t there. You can’t see love, for example, but I doubt that anyone would question its existence. When people die, is it so impossible to believe that a human emotion as powerful as love (or hate) couldn’t keep their spirit earthbound?
There are hundreds of thousands of people who have personally witnessed paranormal events. They have seen the impossible happen. They’ve seen the unexplainable happen. They aren’t ALL crazy, and they aren’t all liars. They are reporting an event that happened. They aren’t reporting the product of an overactive imagination.
The study of the paranormal is not an exercise in futility. It isn’t a study about “nothing.” Paranormal events exist. “Paranormal” is not synonymous with “impossible”!
